How To Lose Your Beer Belly

How to sort that Beer Belly out before the Christmas pig out.

26% of British men are now overweight. Despite the jokes that we chuck about our mates for having a ‘dad bod’, the beer belly is much more dangerous than most would realise. So does beer actually cause that gut, and how do you finally say goodbye to it? (and it doesn't necessarily mean you need to give up alcohol).

How to lose your beer belly

CAUSE

TOO MANY CALORIES! Don’t be fooled by the colloquialism, beer isn’t solely responsible for your belly, sustained calorie surplus is the problem. That’s not to say go hard on the pints, a Peroni (other beers are available) has 235kcal, so 4 or 5 of those and say goodbye to half of your daily calorie allowance, and eventually your toes.

EFFECT

Belly fat, or abdominal visceral fat to be technical, is more dangerous than other body fat types due to its location on the body. The liver, the stomach and the intestines are all in close contact with belly fat, which can increase the risk of metabolic and cardiovascular complications. Divide your waist measurement by your hip to discover where you’re at in terms of central obesity. A score of 0.9 or higher calls for you to urgently read the next paragraph.

THE FIX

CALORIE DEFICIT! Cutting your calorie intake, or increasing the number of calories that you’re burning on a daily basis is the only fix. This can be done in a number of ways, one of which is to cut the beer. If you still want to go out with mates and dates, say hello to Gin and Slimline Tonic or Tequila - Soda - Lime, both of which sit sub-100 calories. Eat and drink less and move more, your body will thank you for it!

A reminder that consuming certain alcoholic drinks in moderation is ok and if self-discipline is your issue, check out our F45 article for a sure-fire method to cut your body fat right back.
