Carrots have a distinctive bright orange colour and are one of the most delicious and versatile root vegetables around. Not only do they have a deliciously sweet and
earthy flavour, but they come with amazing health benefits too.
The bright orange colour of carrots comes from their rich content of a special
antioxidant called beta-carotene. Beta-carotene is the precursor to vitamin A, an
essential nutrient needed for the production of healthy skin cells. This critical vitamin can also help to keep our skin supple and healthy and without it our skin can become dry.
Whilst beta-carotene shouldn’t replace your daily sun cream, research does suggests that this antioxidant may help to protect our skin cells from UV rays, which is a primary trigger for ageing.
This smoothie really is jam-packed full of nutrients for skin glow. Avocado provides a source of vitamin E which has anti-inflammatory properties and can play a role with maintaining healthy skin. This nutrient is thought to have anti-ageing effects due to its antioxidant nature which helps to fight damage from UV rays and pollution.
What’s more this smoothie is a rich source of vitamin C, a key nutrient required for
collagen production. Collagen is responsible for the skin’s firmness and elasticity,
both of which are critical components to reduce signs of ageing.
Lastly, this tasty beverage provides turmeric, which contains curcumin and is thought to have anti-inflammatory properties. The black pepper increases the absorption of curcumin by as much as 2000%.
