It may sound obvious but self care is an art. It lies in how you manage to fit it into a schedule and finding the time to do so between the mundanities and chores of everyday life (not to forget how the hell you afford it!)

Self care isn’t a choice, it should be a vital practice that should be incorporated into EVERY aspect of your life. The world we’re living in at the moment is completely different to the one it was just a few weeks ago. Naturally, you might be experiencing ‘fight-or-flight’ mode on a daily basis. 

1. Schedule time in your day to do EXACTLY what you want to do. 

There is also now the problem of availability, more so than ever, because there’s the expectation to constantly be connected. This month, we challenge you to think about how you can carve out time in your day to do the things that actually make you feel good. Even if it’s time for you to do absolutely nothing. 

2. Journal and gratitude. 

Just as it’s beneficial to keep track of what we’ve done, it’s also good to notice what we have. Keep a journal by your bed, and note the things that you feel lucky to have. Everything from clean sheets to a good friend is worth noting. 

For me, it is first thing in the morning whilst having my morning coffee and just before I’m about to go on my walk. That is when my mind is clearest and most at rest to gather my thoughts.

3. Cleanse your social media 

A PRESS juice cleanse isn’t the only type of cleanse you need to do- cleanse your social media by unfollowing everyone and everything that doesn’t bring you happiness. Make sure the people you are following are adding value to your life. 

Social media definitely has some benefits, but does it really make you feel better to expose yourself to everyone’s online versions of themselves? Most often people only report on their success, and so it can be really hard when you’re comparing your entire life to everyone’s highlight reels on Instagram. Take the time to break away from social media, and allow yourself to focus on the beauty of the moment.  

4.Eat healthily and mindfully

Too often we eat our meals while multitasking, thus denying ourselves the pure experience of nourishing meals. Would you work on the computer when having dinner with a loved one? Treat yourself with that same level of respect, and allow yourself to indulge in a meal without any distractions.

5.Create boundaries

Sometimes you need to schedule time out into your day to do exactly what YOU want. What were some of your favorite things when you were young? Did you love picking flowers, or baking brownies, or creating a painting? Treat your inner child to a little present and allow the warm feelings to wash over you. 

Remember, you are not a bad person for saying NO. It doesn’t make you unkind, selfish or rude. Us women especially blurt out “yes” when really inside our head we’re thinking “no, no, no”. By saying no to others you are saying yes to yourself and freeing up space for what you really want to do.
